The Iguana Papers include a variety of documents, such as emails, presentations, internal briefs, third party reports, and databases. These documents were provided to EIA from files that Andrés Olarte Peña had access to, from January 2017 to January 2019, during the time he worked at Ecopetrol. Many of the files were only available to the highest level executives. These files were shared by Olarte with 100+ governmental entities in Colombia. They were subsequently shared with the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA US). EIA’s research, the key findings of which are available in the Crude Lies report, corroborated some of the information included in the database. EIA strongly believes the information from the Iguana Papers is of public interest. While the dataset was collected between 2017 and 2019, some of the information predates this period. Some of the information presented in this database may have changed. It is not uncommon for people and entities to share the same or similar names. We recommend that you confirm the identities of any individuals or entities included in the database by triangulating with other sources of information.
